Aeromodelling Drones (UAVS)

INTRODUCTION 

The man has always desired to fly like the birds ever since existence came into being. The twentieth century will surely be remembered as the age of flight. After thousands of years of dreaming and trying to fly with feathered wings, men learned the secrets of sustained and controlled fight when our past century was four years old (1903) since then flying has progressed from Miracle to routine.

PREFACE 

All the Pioneers who experiment to develop AVIATION (this is the science of flight including the principles and techniques of building and flying the aircrafts) first tested their theories by building models, obviously no one could guess today the far reaching results of those experiments through aeromodelling, would make possible the tremendous developments in the science of aerodynamics (it is the science of air in motion and the movements of bodies through it) which has made possible thousands of aircrafts carrying million of people around the World, that is why aircraft industries leans heavily on the field of aeromodelling as means of experiments in reduced scale before risking large sums on man carrying machines.

DEFINITIONS

AEROMODELLING: is an art of making practically working models of aircrafts. These models represent in miniature the embodiment of the same basic law as those which apply to the full sized machines.

AEROMODELS: are heavier or lighter than air flying machines (with or without engines) but owing to their size are not capable of carrying any human being and are constructed purely for aeronautical and scientific research purposes.

AIRCRAFT: means any machine which can derive its support in the atmosphere from the reactions of air aerodynamically.

RADIO-CONTROLLED MODELS: During the flight of these models the aeromodels are aerodynamically manoeuvred through movement of controlled surfaces in attitude, altitude and direction by the pilot on the ground using Radio frequencies of radio controlled equipment, these are restricted to fly on VFR (Visual flight rules) only

UAV DRONES: These are also radio frequency controlled model aircrafts capable of flying on long cross country flights (out of sight) working through GPS (satellite link) containing auto pilot which comprises of gyro stabilisation, compass, altimeter and air speed telemetry. These work on IFR rules (instrument flight rules) and can loiter, hover and return to home. They also carries some payload.

OBJECTIVES 

Of aeromodelling is to inculcate a sense of adventure and achievement through sustained hard work involving finally a very high degree of precision craftsmanship and coordination.

SCOPE 

Of aeromodelling- is to lay the foundation for successful career in aeronautical or allied flying lines, whereby ones inherent interest and skill as a model builder will lead more readily to the mature skill of an engineer or a pilot

AS A HOBBY

Many people choose it for hobby enjoyment and entertainment as with all leisure hobbies like painting, music, singing, writing, photography, driving, shooting, hunting etc

BENEFITS
There are reasons for the adoption of model airplane building and flying-it helps people to improve their higher IQ levels and grasping quick reflexes.

As a SPORTS:

Aircraft model building and flying affords the most immediate practical access to aviation. Model flying has itself instructive and sporting aspects of more than ordinary allurement trying to inspire ones best creative endeavour. That’s why it has become challenging Sports World wide involving zonal, state, national and World championships in four categories of events i.e. Free flight, Wire controlled, Radio controlled and Static modelling

AS A SUBJECT

NCC Air wing (Air Force) has it as a compulsory subject of teaching this to young cadets: Lot many school institutions are also having it as a hobby club in order to inspire students towards Aviation carrier awareness.

AS A CARRER

Youth today has been particularly attracted towards this mini aeronautics recognizing that its further development can parallel his own talent and will, which affords him on opportunity to apply his enthusiasm, imagination and constructive ability to build his career (Drone pilots, Modelling Instructors)

RESULTS

The mere act of manipulating the flight controls is no better enough in this highly scientific world but calls for superior knowledge and wherewithal on the part of an operator. For examples all flying clubs even Airforce should impart training first in aeromodelling then to proceed further instead of direct full sized aircraft operations. Aeromodelling will definitely prove it’s worth economically creating better pilots and engineers.
